Why this club

Arsenal began in 1886 among munitions workers in Woolwich before crossing the river to Highbury and, later, the Emirates. Herbert Chapman's 1930s sides and Arsène Wenger's Invincibles of 2003–04 made them a byword for cultured English football. They have not left the top flight since 1919. Supporting the Gunners means a global club with a North London spine, a long wait for the next league crown, and a fan culture that still argues about the right way to play.
